Cathi writes, "This isn't my original Halloween poem, but one my mom sung to me from the time I was a little girl
(I'm 45 now) until last year. Mom passed away last November, so I'm going to miss it for the first time in my life,
but I thought that if you printed it here, a piece of her would live on, this Halloween. Here goes: "
Jack-o-lantern pumpkin head
He is a fearful sight.
If I were you, I'd be afraid
To meet him in the night.
By day he is a pumpkin,
But just you wait 'til night.
When out of eyes and nose and mouth
There shines a yellow light.
"Mom probably learned this in elementary school in the '30's and I have no idea where it originally came from.
Thanks for letting me share..."
Gracie sent me two little poems--thanks!:
Ghosts and Goblins Vampires to!
You can pick your own pumpkin for you!
Everyone likes Halloween!
Even me!
Sometimes I like to walk in the dark!
I like to shout and scream!
Sneak behind someone I know....
Boo its Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When ghosts arise and Sunlight hides
Don't look for me I'll be inside!
Sent in by Nancy--thanks!

Never seem to make a glitch.
Curse, blast, kick and hit,
Be the witchy glitchy me!
Sent in by Tess--thanks!
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate
The first one said, "Oh my, it's getting late"
The second one said, "There are witches in the air"
The third one said,"But we don't care!"
The fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run"
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
Wooooo, went the wind
And out went the light
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!
Sent in by Alva--thanks!
Happy Halloween
The air is crisp and leaves are falling,
It s almost time to go ghost calling
We must make our jack-o-lanterns
to help light the way,
so we won't get lost on Halloween day.
Find the biggest you can I dare you to try,
Clean out his insides and give him some eyes.
Big ones, small ones he doesn't mind,
just make sure his light will shine.
Give him a nose long and thin,
short and fat he might like that.
Whatever you choose I'm sure he will agree,
he is the best looking pumpkin
on the street.

Year's delight, Halloween fright.
Witches and demons abound.
To ward off the ghost, give it a toast.
And have a fun night on the town!
~Heather~
On the street the baby cries
By seeing Frankinstein
As I walk down the hill
I can feel the October chill
Because I ate so much candy I got ill
And all the fright
From the ghost in white
I can finally say "Good Night".
~Paola~
Halloween Ow so scaery,
Ow so creepy,

We spend our money for a costume we only use to get candy.
Then we eat it and we want more.

On All Hallows Eve, strange things start to happen.
The moon glows red, and the wind shreiks.
The ground starts to quake, and witches dwell the streets.
Mummies come out in toilet paper streaks.
Horses gallop, but the rider has no head.
Without a doubt, It's HALLOWEEN!

Ben went to the graveyard
One dark and lonely night,
He didn't know then
that the halloween dare
Would result in a spine chilling fright!
The moon was full,
Full as a balloon,
Oh what a creepy moon!
Ben heard breathing behind his ear,
Fear flooded through his brain,
Was it a zombie a ghost?
It practically drove him insane!
The breathing got louder,
Ben turned around and closed his eyes,
something wet slopped down his leg..
something wet like a hog!
he opened his eyes to see.......
That it was only his pet dog!!!!
~Christina~
HALLOWEEN
Ghost, Goblins and Witches
And scary little twitches
Dark skies, dead flies, loud cries
Scary costumes, what a fright
Fill this Halloween night
But these terrifying things make it handy
To get lots of different kinds of candy
I go to the door and say trick or treat
Can't wait to get home and eat, eat, eat.

Ghosts and Goblins are really a sight
The witches stir brew

The bats fly high up in the sky
While the children all laugh
watching the costumes they pass
As they knock at the doors
They say Trick or Treat
Only in hopes for a really sweet treat
Holloween night is such a fright

Halloween's coming, are you ready for the fright
Goblins and ghouls come out at night
Witches and warlocks are ready to scare
Skeletons dancing without a care
Devils come out to settle their craves
Zombies are popping out of their graves
Little black bats are flying around
Roaches are crawling not making a sound
So many creatures
All over the place
I'm so scared
To home I must race

The Candy King
There was a king who loved Halloween, He waited each year for this scary scene. He sneaked out to hang on his door, black bats and witches and spookes and galore. The midnight hour was his favorite time, with monsters covering snakes in slime. As twelve o'clock chimed through the stars,he opened up his snickers bars.

Horrid stories being told.
Apples everywhere-some are old.
Lively children all around.
Lollipops falling to the ground.
Owls hooting in the trees.
Witches are torturing fleas.
Even if your sister knows, warn her.
Evil eyes stare in every corner.
Never go out at midnight
~Terri~

Put on your costume.
Zig! Zag! Zoom!
It's Halloween night
When the mummies leave their tomb.
The goblins come down
From Halloween town.
Everyone is frightened
As they run all around.
Go out if you dare.
It's a haunted house out there!
But you'll get lots of treats,
Or even a S-C-A-R-E!!!!
~Emma, 6~
On Halloween Night,
When there's a smoky, Harvest moon,
I'm out trick-or-treating
With the witches and a goon.
Everyone's in costume
From goblins to bumblebees.
I'm so scared, I'm shaking
From those spooky looking trees!
The houses---decorated.
The jack-o-lanterns---glowing.
Everything is silent
And the cool, crisp wind is blowing.
I'm about to knock on
The haunted house's door
When suddenly I turn around
And hear a monster roar!
I see some strange lights
Quickly being shined.
I rubbed my eyes.....Is it real
Or is it just my mind?
Later that night, I came home.
My basket was a treat!
All I did through that whole night
Was eat, eat, eat, eat, EAT!
The evening passed so quickly,
Does it not seem?
I can't wait for next year's
SPOOKY HALLOWEEN!!
~Victoria, 9~
Green cats eyes
in midnight gloom
fly with the witch
on her ragged broom
over dark hills where
bonfires loom.

round and ovel
oronge and red
like an apple

Lori writes, "I made this up to go w/ our Pumpkin Patch fieldtrip & our Science Changes Unit"
(On Top of Spaghetti)
Down in the ground, all covered with dirt,
My pumpkin seed is buried safe, where it can't be hurt.
It cracked open; the vines pushed into the air,
And now all the vines are stretching everywhere.
They grab with their curls and snake across the ground,
And if you look carefully, the buds of flowers can be found.
The buds begin growing and soon flowers appear,
Making a burst of yellow color that makes us come near.
A baby pumpkin all colored in green,
Gets bigger each day to change to orange as we've seen.
Now it's up to you; choose what you want to do,
You can carve it into a jack-o-lantern, or plant it's seeds for more new pumpkins too.
Once a Halloween witch
Wanted to be filthy rich
Selling candy corn that makes creatures groan
And pumpkin pie makes goblins moan.
~Zach~

Halloween friend
One halloween night a few years ago, I laid awake in bed. For I heard a sound in the closet, and didn't know what to do.
When I checked the closet to see a scare, a little ghost was stading there. He seemed friendly for I wasn't sure.
He said his name was halloween friend. Mom and dad were asleep, so we went to trick or treat. But when the clock struck
twelve, he had to leave. Then he said, "I'll come back next halloween.
~Lexa~

Halloween Night
Scary, eerie, horrifying, fright,
This comes up on Halloween night ,
Witches, ghouls, goblins and ghosts,
Getting scares from our Halloween hosts.
Popcorn balls and candy peaches,
All we hear are screams and screeches,
Candy bags are full of sweets,
The people give out lots of treats.
There's a haunted house on Willow street,
Who knows what vengeful ghouls we'll meet,
I hope your Halloween is lots of fun,
The fright of the night has only just begun.
