Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a DADDY!
Happy Father's Day to all the Daddys in the World!!

Father's Day is a special day for everyone! We use this day to honor our fathers all over the world! We celebrate this holiday on the third Sunday in June. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane, Washington, thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Her father, Henry Jackson Smart, had raised Sonora after her mother died and she wanted him to know how special he was to her. Her father was born in June, so she chose that month to celebrate the new holiday! I hope you enjoy the activities I have here for celebrating Father's Day! If you have any suggestions, please contact me!

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

Fathers are Wonderful People

Fathers are wonderful people
Too little understood,
And we do not sing their praises
As often as we should...

For, somehow, Father seems to be
The man who pays the bills,
While Mother binds up little hurts
And nurses all our ills...

And Father struggles daily
To live up to "HIS IMAGE"
As protector and provider
And "hero or the scrimmage"...

And perhaps that is the reason
We sometimes get the notion,
That Fathers are not subject
To the thing we call emotion,

But if you look inside Dad's heart,
Where no one else can see
You'll find he's sentimental
And as "soft" as he can be...

But he's so busy every day
In the grueling race of life,
He leaves the sentimental stuff
To his partner and his wife...

But Fathers are just WONDERFUL
In a million different ways,
And they merit loving compliments
And accolade of praise,

For the only reason Dad aspires
To fortune and success
Is to make the family proud of him
And to bring them happiness...

He's a guardian and a guide,
Someone that we can count on

~Helen Steiner Rice~

As I ponder the love that I saw in his eyes,
A Godly love, given without compromise....
I recall many times that he stood by my side,
And prodded me on with great vigor and pride.
His voice ever confident, firm and yet fair,
Always speaking with patience, tenderness and care.
The power and might of his hands was so sure,
I knew there was nothing we couldn't endure.
It's true, a few others provided insight,
Yet, he laid the foundation that kept me upright.
He's the grandest of men to have lived on this earth,
Although he's not royal by stature or birth.
He's a man of great dignity, honor and strength.
His merits are noble, and of admirable length.
He's far greater than all other men that I know,
He's my Dad, he's my mentor, my friend and hero.

Father's Day

Dads are the ones who are there for you at all times. When you are sick or not you are loved. You might not even be his but a true father is there to take care of you whether your true father is there or not! Be very grateful for the father you have taking care of you because he does not have to but wants to. This only means this dad truly loves you and your family. Thank you dad for everything you have done for me and being there. You're very loved always, and forever. This is from children everywhere.

Thanks, Deanna!

I Remember, Dad ...

The way that you worked the soil and made your garden grow.
The beautiful color and fragrance of each rose
caught everyone’s attention, as they would come and go.

The way that you sat so erect on your fine horse
As the two of you rode out on your daily course.

The way that you worked. You had a good business mind,
And how you would try to help others, from time to time.

And even though we would occasionally disagree,
there was one thing that we knew would always be.

Yes, I Remember Dad, how we could see easily,
how much you loved this family!

Love, your daughter
2002 by Martha Duke Manley
Written in memory of Prince Farley Duke, Sr.
August 29,1903- January 17,1990

Angelique writes: I loved the poem sent in by Martha called "If I were lost" by Louis E. Simpson. I went a little further and added a verse for the children who may not have a father in their lives. So here goes.

And if you can't find my father,
please look around for my dear mother.
You found them! Oh, that's good.
I knew it,I knew it.
I knew you would.
